If you have a considerable amount of weight to lose and don’t want to wait months to see progress, a calorie shifting diet should be considered. I was skeptical when I first started to use this type of plan, especially since so many other diets and exercise plans had led to more failure than progress. Yet here I am today, on my way to reaching my goal weight and putting my struggles with weight behind me…and I am confident you can do it as well!
How It Works
A calorie shifting diet is a way to control what you eat without completely depriving yourself. The “shifting” is in reference to the practice of eating a different number of calories every day. While all other calorie-based diets I followed required me to stick to some ridiculously low number (say 1200) every single day, a shifting plan allows you to shake it up and eat a different number each day. You essentially keep your body guessing so it doesn’t get too comfortable with one consistent calorie level.
You also vary your foods so each meal is made up of different combos of protein, carbs, and fats.
The best part about the plan is having a few days on a regular cycle to eat the foods you really love but which do not fit into the shifting plan very well. This completely avoids the feeling of deprivation, which was such a diet-wrecker for me in the past!
Tips for Making It Work
The best tip I can give you for making a calorie shifting diet work is to be consistent. It may be hard the first couple days to stick to your calorie limit, especially if it means not eating higher calorie meals that you really enjoy. Make a list of all the reasons you are doing this and allow that to motivate you to keep going.
If you remain consistent and follow the plan, you will find that it is extremely easy to follow. Going into it with the mindset that all diets are impossible will allow you to give up on yourself too easy. Keep positive and you will find this is a plan that can be followed long term without deprivation.
If you really want to see faster results, add in some light walking or another type of exercise that you enjoy doing. This will burn some extra calories and boost your metabolism so the weight comes off a bit faster, though a calorie shifting diet does a great job of releasing body fat on its own.
I lost 10 pounds in the first couple weeks on the plan! That is not a gimmick. Those type of results are typical when you start eating in this manner…and I have even found it easy to maintain my weight long term using the basic principles of the calorie shifting diet.
Finally, if you want this type of diet to work give yourself freedom to really enjoy your favorite foods on those “free” days that are built into the plan. We all have cravings for foods that aren’t the best for us and trying to give them up cold turkey just leads to failure. Enjoy them when they are appropriate and with calorie shifting diet you will learn how to balance the large variety of foods available to us today for rapid weight loss and satisfaction.
